How long have you been writing with Times New Roman and Arial? Time to bring some variety to your blank sheet. Maybe you didn’t even know it, but if you use a Windows PC, you can install all kinds of original fonts that will give new life to your texts. It really is very simple; all you need to know is how to install fonts in Windows 10, and we’ll explain that to you here. We will also tell you how to eliminate the ones you don’t like and more.

How to install fonts in Windows 10 from the Microsoft Store

The easiest method of installing fonts is through the Microsoft Store. All it takes is a few clicks.

Step 1: Can you open Setting Windows 10, by clicking Personalization and then in the tab Sources.

Then you will see a link for Get more fonts in the Microsoft store. Click on that link and then download the font, just like you would an app, so it will automatically install and appear in settings.

Alternatively, you can also manually download a font from your preferred website and install it. Steps 2 and 3 will give you more insight on how to install fonts from outside the Microsoft Store.

Step 2: When you download it, the font may or may not be compressed into a zip file. If it’s packed, right-click the file, select Remove all and then follow the instructions to put the font in the folder of your choice.

Step 3– After unzipping the file (or when you’ve downloaded the file), right-click on the file and select Install. And that’s it!

How to install fonts in Windows 10 manually (drag and drop)

If you prefer to do things manually, you can use the old drag and drop method, which requires two windows open.

Step 1: Download your font as indicated in the instructions above and extract it from the compressed file, if necessary.

Step 2: Navigate to the search field on the taskbar, type Control Panel and click on the corresponding result.

Step 3: With the Control Panel open, go to Appearance and customization and click Sources, in the main window.

Step 4– Once the library with fonts loads, simply drag your new font from the destination location in File Explorer to the font window. A small progress bar will appear as it installs. Once complete, the new font is ready for use.

Note: Windows 10 allows drag and drop of the new font files to install via the menu Setting. Just open the menu Setting, go to the section Sources from the menu Personalization and then drag the font files to the dotted rectangle below Add fonts.

How to remove fonts

If you end up installing more fonts than you need, or you just don’t want some to be available, we now explain how to remove them.

Step 1Search for “Control Panel” in the Windows 10 search bar and click the corresponding result.

Step 2: click Appearance and customization and then in Sources.

Step 3– Scroll through the list or use your keyboard to search for a specific font. When you find it, click on it and select Remove in the menu on the top bar. Alternatively, you can click the right button of your mouse and select Remove from the pop-up menu.

Step 4: When asked if you confirm the action, click Yes. This way the font will be removed from your system.

Reset the default fonts

If the fonts are causing you problems, or if you have deleted any important ones, you can always reset your fonts to Windows 10 defaults. This is much less complex than reset or reinstall Windows 10, and you just have the fonts back as when the operating system was just installed.

Step 1: Look for the Control Panel in the Windows 10 search bar and click the corresponding result.

Step 2: click Appearance and customization and then in Sources.

Step 3: click Font settings, in the menu on the left.

Step 4: click the button Restore default font settings. Windows 10 will restore the font selection to the default Windows 10 options.
