How to block annoying text messages on your phone | Digital Trends Spanish
There are many reasons for blocking text messages, from the constant stream of spam from pushy companies to perhaps a stubborn suitor who won’t take “no” for an answer. Fortunately, the iOS and Android operating systems have text message blocking features on the phone. Suffer no more! The solution is simple!
(If you’re looking to block calls from a phone number, we have separate guides for Android and iOS.)
Message blocking on iOS
Known contacts and phone numbers
Blocking texts on iOS is easy. For specific messages, touch the message of the contact you want to block, then touch Details, in the upper right corner. Again, in the upper right corner, tap the “i” icon to open the information page, then tap Block this person at the bottom of the page.
Another way is to go to Settings> Messages> Blocked and press Add new to add another contact to block. With either method, you will not only block messages, but also their phone calls and FaceTime calls. It may seem radical, yes: but it saves you from having to resort to applications and the Phone and FaceTime settings to block the same person.
Numbers listed as “unknown” or “private”
Unfortunately, you cannot block messages from unknown and private numbers in the same way. However, you can filter them out and separate them from the rest of the people you do know and accept. To do this, go to Settings> Messages and access the option Filter unknown senders. This will create a new tab in your Messages app called Unknown senders, so that you will not get notifications of these. It may not be ideal, but it is already something.
Report spam in iMessage
Another thing you can do is report spam and unwanted messages. Thus, when you receive a message from someone you don’t know, you can select the “Report trash” link. This way, tapping the link will forward the sender’s information and message to Apple.
The company will have to deal with the contact and eventually block that person.
In addition, you can also send an email to “[email protected]”. Keep in mind, of course, that you will need a screenshot of the message, as well as the email address or phone number that sent the message, the date and time you received it.
It should also be remembered that Apple does not take care of SMS and MMS messages, but you can always inform your operator about them. AT&T, for example, suggests forwarding it to 7726 (SPAM). After that, the company will verify the message.
Message blocking on Android
On a Google phone
There are two ways to block messages on a Google phone, like a Pixel 5. The first is to open the Messenger application, then open or start a conversation with one of your contacts. Access to Plus -represented by three vertical dots- select People and options, and touch To block. You can also open the Messenger app, long press the conversation you want to block, select To block when the option appears in the upper right corner and click To accept.
On a Samsung phone
Similar to a Google phone, Samsung phones have two ways to block messages. One method is to open Messages, and then choose the conversation that contains the contact you want to block. From there, tap the More icon, select Block number, and turn on Message blocking. Then select OK.
You can also go to Messages> More> Settings. Tap on Block messages to select the check box, and then click Block list. From here, manually enter the contact number and select the sign ‘+’, or choose the person or contact you want to block from your inbox or contact list. When you have entered all the numbers you want to block, tap the back arrow.
On an LG phone
The LG lock process is pretty quick and easy. Open the LG messaging application and press the SMS or MMS message you want to block. Then tap on the three dots in the upper right corner, then select Block Number to confirm your choice.
On an HTC phone
Like LG’s blocking process, HTC’s way of blocking spam is quick and easy. Opens Messages, then press and hold the desired text conversation until Message Options. Then go to Block contact.
From your operator
Many mobile phone operators offer additional services and settings to help their customers block messages from specific numbers, such as those from telemarketers. T Mobile has message blocking, Verizon offers the option of blocking calls and messages, Sprint requires the use of limits and permissions through My Sprint, and AT&T it has smart limits.
Block texts with apps
Also, there are dozens of apps that you can install on your Android or iOS device, if you want to block numbers and messages. Next, we show you our favorites.
Should I Answer? (free)
Our favorite call blocking app is Should I Answer? An active community shares information and opinions about the numbers and classifies them, so that when a message reaches you, you can see if it comes from a “legal” number or not. You can block numbers easily, it works when you are offline, and you can even block all the numbers that are not in your contact list, if you wish. While this blocker app has access to your contacts, the developer has promised that it will only use them to verify them with incoming calls, and they will not be shared.
Google play IOS
Hiya Caller ID and Block (free)
It is the successor to the popular Truemessenger application, and it serves the same purpose, allowing users to instantly recognize when a spam number is calling or sending messages, and will automatically block it.
Its powerful caller identification system will also flag unknown numbers calling you, which is why this is one of the best apps. Used by over 250 million people, it can certainly be your blocking app. In addition, you can block email addresses.
