Samsung Beats Apple With Galaxy SmartTag Trackers | Digital Trends Spanish

Galaxy SmartTag, the small device that will allow you to locate lost objects, was presented by Samsung in the framework of the Galaxy Unpacked 2021 event.

Equipped with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), the Galaxy SmartTag is a small device that clips onto any item, such as keys or a bag, in order to facilitate its search in case of loss.

The device is linked to a smartphone using the Samsung SmartThings app.

The cell phone will show the last location on a map and a proximity indicator, according to the strength of the BLE signal. Additionally, if necessary, a button can be pressed for the SmartTag to emit a sound.

The Galaxy SmartTag can be attached to any object to facilitate its search.

The Galaxy SmartTag will be available starting January 29 for $ 30 in black and cream.

Although its arrival could put more pressure on Tile trackers and Apple’s long-awaited AirTags, the SmartTag will only work with Samsung Galaxy devices. That is, it will not be compatible with other Android phones, much less an iPhone.

What about UWB compatibility?

Samsung’s Galaxy SmartTag also does not support ultra-wideband technology (ultra-wideband, UWB), unlike the Tile tracker.

However, the South Korean company announced that at the end of 2021 the SmartTag Plus will be available, which will have this technology, according to the statement. The Verge.

One of the advantages of the UWB is that it allows objects to also be located among themselves, which provides more information than the proximity meter.
