Nintendo Switch already surpasses the 3DS in sales | Digital Trends Spanish

Nintendo has just released its latest financial report. In one of the highlights, sales of the Switch game console have surpassed those of its predecessor, the 3DS.

What is striking about this news is that the Nintendo Switch has only been available for four years since its launch in 2017. According to the company, in this period the console has already sold 79.87 million units.

Meanwhile, the Nintendo 3DS, which ended its production in September 2020, managed to sell 75.94 million units in its nine and a half years of life.

Thanks to these figures, Nintendo’s hybrid console has become the fifth best-selling console in the history of the company, behind the Nintendo DS (154 million), Nintendo Wii (101.6 million), Game Boy (118.7 million) and Game Boy Advance (81.5 million).

From Nintendo they believe that part of the success of the Switch is due to the popularity of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, which has already sold $ 30 million.

In fact, it is already close to surpassing Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, the best-selling game on the console. Now, experts hope that Super Mario 3D World, which goes on sale February 12, give this console a fresh boost.

For its part, the document also informs that the Nintendo Switch Lite, a lower-cost model launched in 2019, should also soon overtake the Wii U.

The first has sold 13.53 million units, while the Wii U has 13.56 million.

Finally, the Nintendo report also reported a record profit of $ 3.6 billion in the April-December period.
