New Russian vaccine is effective and useful against all strains | Digital Trends Spanish
Russia’s VECTOR State Research Center for Virology and Biotechnology reported that the EpiVacCorona vaccine is effective against coronavirus mutations that have been detected in the UK, South Africa and South America.
The second Russian vaccine would be 94 percent effective in older people and provide immunity for at least a year.
“The use of the vaccine generates effective antibodies in 94% of the cases and in the rest it protects against a serious development of the infection. It also works against all known variants, against the British, the South American and the South African ”, says Alexandr Semiónov, director of the research center.
This percentage of efficacy was established in clinical trials with people over 60 years of age, according to the Russian consumer defense agency Rospotrebnadzor.
One of the most remarkable aspects of this vaccine is that it can be quickly modified to be used against new strains of the coronavirus that appear.
After Sputnik V, this is the second vaccine registered in Russia. It is given in two doses and generates enough antibodies 42 days after the first injection.
The Russian authorities also indicated that 1.5 million doses of EpiVacCorona will be produced this month, and that in May and June production should rise to 3 and 5 million doses, respectively.
It should be remembered that Russia has been hit hard by the pandemic. The nation already accumulates more than 4.6 million infections and the death of 101,480 people as a result of the disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
