Three series that should never have returned | Digital Trends Spanish

Many were struck by the announcement of How I met your father, Serie which will take up the events of the hit comedy How I met your mother which ended in 2014 after nine seasons.

It was not only the unexpectedness of the announcement that was striking, but also the fact that earlier attempts had been made to continue the iconic series with a project spearheaded by Greta Gerwig and Drew Tarver that was unsuccessful.

Comebacks aren’t always good and fans of the series know about that. In fact, you don’t have to do too much research to find three series that should never have returned.

The X-Files

One of the most successful and popular series of the nineties, many were excited in 2015 when FOX announced the long-awaited return of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully.

One of the attractive hooks was that the return kept the original cast, led by Gillian Anderson and David Duchovny.

However, the new version was far from meeting expectations. A well-worn story and the obvious weariness of the lead actors brought the two new seasons dangerously close to becoming a failure.

The bad news is that FOX is trying to bring back The Secret Files X (in Spanish), despite Gillian Anderson’s refusal.

The IT Crowd (US version)

This series is a true hidden gem of English television. The Latin American public was able to know it thanks to the Isat channel that played it every day.

One of its main characteristics was the good dose of black humor that identifies the English so much. For this reason, many were surprised that NBC announced the return of The IT Crowd, but through its American version.

The remake kept Richard Ayoade, one of the protagonists, as if to mark a link with the European series, but also included Joel McHale (Community). The result was so bad that the series never saw the light.

Thanks to the internet, its first episode is known, which was leaked, unfortunately for the fans of the original version of The IT Crowd.

In the United States they have learned the hard way that what works in the United Kingdom does not have to work on their territory.

It happened to them with Gracepoint, an adaptation of the successful Broadchurch. The English version had an outstanding cast led by Olivia Colman and David Tennant.

In the United States they wanted to modify little, in fact they kept Tennant and they put Anna Gunn as a partner, whom we met in Breaking bad playing Skyler.

However, despite efforts, the series failed to convince and ended up being canceled after its first season.
