Donald Trump and Facebook’s failure: It’s an insult, we will win | Digital Trends Spanish

Facebook announced that it will maintain the suspension of Donald Trump’s account for two years. The profile of the former president has been blocked since January 7, accused of inciting violence in the assault on the United States Capitol.

According to the platform:

“Today we confirm the sanction for a limited time, in accordance with the protocols that we are applying to the accounts of Mr. Trump. Due to the seriousness of the circumstances that led to the suspension of your account, we believe that your actions constituted a severe violation of our rules, which deserve the highest penalty available under the new enforcement protocols. We will suspend your accounts for two years, from the date of the initial cessation on January 7 of this year ”.

Once this deadline is met, the company will reassess “whether the risk to public safety has decreased.” For this, as they explain, external factors will be analyzed, such as cases of violence, restrictions on peaceful assemblies and other indicators of civil unrest.

“If we determine that there is still a serious risk to public safety, we will extend the restriction for a specified period and continue to reevaluate until that risk has decreased,” warns the social network.

It should be remembered that, in January, Mark Zuckerberg explained that Trump’s suspension was extended due to the “use of the platform to incite a violent insurrection against a democratically elected government.”

“We believe that the risks of allowing the president to continue using our service during this period are simply too great,” said the CEO of the company at the time.

Donald Trump responded to Facebook after the ruling

The former president of the United States responded in a statement to his suspension on the social network:

“Facebook’s ruling is an insult to the record 75 million people, plus many others, who voted for us in the rigged 2020 presidential election,” he said. “They must not be allowed to get away with this censorship and silencing, and ultimately, we will win. Our Country can no longer bear this abuse! ”.
