The Boring Company Opens Its First Tunnel in Las Vegas | Digital Trends Spanish
Of all the companies that Elon Musk has, there is one in particular that has a striking name: The Boring Company, which is dedicated to building tunnels. If the name is well placed or not, it is up to the respectable.
But the truth is that The Boring Company recently has completed a milestone, and that is that its tunnels in the city of Las Vegas have already begun to transport passengers. Specifically, these tunnels are below the city’s convention center and it is a closed loop with two tunnels connecting the north and south wings of the structure.
The journey through the tunnels is carried out on Tesla vehicles that travel at no more than 65 kilometers per hour (40 mph) and lasts about two minutes in total; if this same trip were made on foot, it would take about half an hour. Cars move in only one direction, traveling a total distance of 2.7 kilometers (1.7 miles).
Beyond the effective functionality of this first inauguration, the truth is that the operation of these tunnels does not look much like the original idea of Elon Musk. Because the objective of founding The Boring Company was to build high-speed tunnels that would avoid city traffic, or connect two of them in record time.
However, plans have had to change over time. The first tunnels were to be built in Los Angeles, California, but The Boring Company did not obtain authorization to carry them out. Musk then took the project to Las Vegas, where he just inaugurated a first functional implementation, but moving people through a convention center is a far cry from the dream of connecting New York and Washington DC in less than half an hour.
Maybe that dream will come true in the future, but for now, The Boring Company is, in practice, a sophisticated means of transportation for those who attend trade shows like CES.
